We need to stop thinking of ancient peoples as being dumb. It took a lot of time, ingenuity and effort but it wasn’t impossible.

People always underestimate the power of spending decades or centuries working on a single problem. We haven't been able to perfectly replicate pyramid construction with ancient methods because we don't have our greatest thinkers focused on building and refining pyramids. If we had engineers who focused their entire lives on building pyramids with tens of thousands of workers at their disposal, then over the centuries we'd refine our techniques and accomplish the same shyt.

The wikipedia link is good, one of the interesting things is that you can see how building techniques were developed over time with better techniques used for the more recent pyramics and sometimes even over the course of a single pyramid (one was built with a more rudimentary construction on the lower half and a more advanced technique on the upper half).
