I’m not rich but I damn near can do/buy anything I want and I will be the first to tell you that money don’t mean shyt for real. Some simply better at getting than others. Most people will not be rich or well off, so no, I do not think that financial status or lack thereof determines if you are a failure or not. People were living life way before money was invented.

What is well off?

My wife and I bring in a good amount per year even before bonuses and she doesn’t think we’re upper middle class. I recognize there are differences of opinion about what it means to be well off. I have no issues staying where we are financially, so if that’s not considered well off, then no I wouldn’t feel like a failure. But we’re also in the top 10% of earners, so how could realistically feel like a failure without seeming entitled.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

if you need $200k for you to have a housewife then that just means you are terrible with money. I'm barely at $115k a year and my wife and children are extremely comfortable granted we don't have any debt but its more than that...

I did the hypothetical math several times over

Max 401k: $23,500/year
Max Roth Ira: $7,000/year
Family Healthcare: $12,000/year
4 bedroom house mortgage: $24,000/year
Food: $8000/year
Emergency fund??
Kids college??
Vacation??

Yeah I need $200k to be comfy

Yes and no. I grew up poor, but I'm doing well for myself now. I'm not rich, but I make good money. I'm definitely doing better financially than my parents are when they were my age and younger and a lot of my family.

I used to want to be famous, but seeing how famous people can't do anything without people all in their business, no thanks. If I was famous, let it be on the level of Stephen King. Only his hardcore fans know what he looks like. He can go to the grocery without TMZ following him around.

Not rich but I’ve been fortunate enough to visit many countries, that my share cropper’s grandparents couldn’t go to. My kids are happy and my parents are proud of me. That’s all wanted in life.

Everyone yes would love to have financial freedom or be rich

Unfortunately a lot of us the cards was dealt how they are. Situations in life comes up and add the fact having the right connections throughout life is the biggest factor

Financial independence is the ultimate goal so yes, I would feel like a failure. There are a lot of misconceptions, high salary does not equal independently wealthy by a long shot.

How is maxing your 401k and Roth Ira being bad with money?

$200k is just my personal goal, some people are cool with less. Nothing wrong with that.

Yep, these types of threads are constantly filled with people trying to set goals for other people :francis:
