Hip-hop was completely co-opted. The core audience used to be the tastemakers who stamped artists for the mainstream to follow. It's backwards now.

There were two eye opening threads that drove this point home to me, further.
Thread about a Rolling Stone list of rap groups and a thread about"bu bu bu but how come no hip hop artist has topped the Billboard hot 100 chart this year"

Very few people would have noticed or cared about those stories when we decided who was hot or not. The outsiders have the power now.
