Knicks were on the verge of winning that series even if Tatum played.
He played pretty much the first 4 games and got injured during the last few minutes of Game 4, which was already out of reach, so it's not like he missed much.
New York had their number after Games 1 & 2, and Game 4 just confirmed that Boston was finished.
They weren't gonna make any miraculous comeback, even with Tatum; the Knicks were just the better team for much of the series outside of games 3 & 5.
