The install was pretty fast, especially considering the
PC I'm using. I installed it over my existing Windows 8.1, though I would recommend you installing it to another partition then dual booting your PC. If you decide to upgrade it, back up your existing Windows installation to a recovery drive. When Windows 10 releases later next year, users on the Technical Preview will have to to a clean install rather than an upgrade.
Start Menu - detects the type of inputs you're using. If using KB/M, it will bring you to the Start Menu seen below, if using a touch based input... it will switch to the start screen like Windows 8.
