Winfred "Wimp" Walton has passed (1996 McDonald's All American, Fresno State/ Detroit native)

All the basketball people I've talked to said he had that potential to be the best out of Michigan. They said he played better then Kobe in the McDonald's game. I'm hearing different rumors on how he died, but most have said he died of fentanyl.

Former Fresno State Basketball Player Winfred “Wimp” Walton Passed Away​

(KMJ) – Former Fresno State basketball player Winfred “Wimp” Walton passed away Monday morning according to his family.
Walton played for Jerry Tarkanian at Fresno State during the 1997-98 season.
Walton was averaging 11 points and 6 rebounds per game, playing alongside Rafer Alston, Chris Herren, and Tremaine Fowlkes.
He was a McDonald’s All American in 1996 out of Detroit Pershing and signed with Jim Boeheim and Syracuse.

Following one college season, Walton declared for the 1998 NBA Draft but he went undrafted.

Wimp was regarded as one of the best hoopers to ever come of of Detroit.

Damn, RIP.. Didn't get the hype on him when he briefly played at Fresno State but RIP to him. Died young

Damn, sad to hear. He was a talented player but he always got in his own way. He was as good as anyone in the 96 class but he was a knucklehead. 6"10 could post and score from three but he never made it to University of Syracuse then barely played for Fresno State.

Played against him when he was a sophomore at East Catholic...even at 16 he was probably top 3 all-time HS players i went up against. RIP...
