Yeah I get what you're saying. G-Unit/50 Cent was how he really got his foot in the door and got him his initial fanbase. But if you judge him as a solo artist, I feel like he became his own. He's a "westcoast gangsta rapper" Whereas Lloyd Banks will forever be "that guy from G-Unit".

Sad because if 50 still supported Banks... Banks could've been.. Same thing applies to Buck. Those were two very talented artists that could never get out of 50s shadow.

I agree, Game went onto create a new narrative. He's a great song writer and he's creative. His hook writing even got better as time went on. His work as a solo artist is solid. He's got a very good discography.

By general principle Game can't be a legend because he spends too much time kissing their asses and namedropping them in every song or biting from them.

I feel you.

I said in another thread that while his "biting", impersonations and references to other rappers are his gimmick and is probably one of the coolest things about him it also makes his music kinda disposable. Him constantly having to glom onto other "legends" puts a cap on just how high he can be rated.

He can rap his ass off though. I thought disc 2 would be better but I seem to be in the minority and favoring disc 1...dude is not a "funky" rapper AT all, I hate how he sounds on most of those west coast/quik/battle cat type of beats.

He did to some degree but you've got to consider wholeness.

The law of wholeness, if Game is never put into Gunit he runs the risk of suffering the same fate as Bishop Lamont, Eve, Rakim or Busta Rhymes. Interscope didn't know to market "Game". 50 was on fire during that time so the movie to align him with a blazing movement was genius.

Without that affiliation he may not have ever dropped a debut album let alone 6 solo albums and a compilation.

The DA was more about him showing his true artistry and the ability to stand alone when he was back was against the wall. It also showcased his sustainably. Game was clearly determined not suffer the same fate as the other members of Gunit.

He'll always be associated with 50 cent.

He low key loves 50 tbh. No henchmen and he'd probably still be in G-unit...Jimmy even said it was his doing in an interview once.

I agree that LAX was not incredible, but it was an above average album with a lot of bangers on it, 3.5-4mic album easy

California Sunshine, Angel, Letter to the King, Bulletproof Diaries, and LAX Files were nice. The rest of that was Aight.

I think there's more that goes into being a "legend" than great records. I get that the OP feels that the Game has more quality albums than other west coast legends. But more goes into making a "legend" than quality records. I think thats why people are so quick to dismiss his opinion. The fact is, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg's careers just mean more to the West Coast than the Game. Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg are MCs whose music and image played a large part in defining West Coast gangsta rap. They molded its image, held it down, went to war for it. I mean, thats why Game is constantly name checking those West Coast pioneers. He understands this.

Game brought the West Coast back into the mainstream in 2004, NO ONE new was breaking from the west during that time. Kendrick and just about every new cali rapper credits game for that

Did he bring the West Coast back? Or was he just a West Coast artist that popped after a long drought? It wasn't until the last few years that we saw a full West Coast push in the mainstream. Either way, I don't think that means that his legacy can rival Snoop and Ice Cube.
