With Nigeria's demise imminent, which SSA country has the chance to reach superpower status?

A lot of people would say South Africa but black people are still second-class citizens over there

Ethiopia is having major internal issues between different ethnic groups and isn't that resource rich anyway

DR Congo might be pound for pound the most resource rich country on the planet but they've never had any stability at any point since Belgian colonization

Ghana has potential but some are inclined to believe that their IMF loan might be the red mark of death

Kenya and Tanzania look promising but have relative uncertainty at this point plus Kenyans are dealing with the al-Shabaab issue

I like what Uganda and Rwanda are doing with their economies but they're still in the realm of getting affected by Congolese fukkery

What do you think?

Right now. I have to say Ethiopia. Uganda and Rwanda are to small(even via GDP) to be a superpower. Ethiopia actually has raw numbers in population(which is good for capital) and is MUCH bigger than Nigeria who is MUCH bigger than Texas. Only flaw with Ethiopia is internal struggles and it being landlocked but other than that it has the blueprints unlike Rwanda, Uganda, or Kenya.

But in the long run I have to say Tanzanian as they been walking the walk and are serious about industrialization. Tanzania may not have a large population or economy like Ethiopia but its around the same size, no internal struggles, not landlocked and is in a stable region of East Africa.

You forgot to mention Angola. IF this new president is different then who knows...

I wished to say Angola but much of the wealth is concentrated to a select few.

Tanzania is already on their way to being neck and neck with Kenya as the economic power in East Africa with less stability problems than its northern neighbor. I can see potential coming from them(im also liking their bongo Flava music scene that's been popping recently)

Uganda has 41 million people, if Canada, France, Australia and Germany can be considered superpowers why can't Uganda?

I agree with you on Tanzania

I would like to say Angola but it seems like their wealth is being concentrated to a select few elites

Tanzania is one of the few African countries serious about industrialization(which is a MUST for Africa) and for now they have a very competent leader.

Sudan/New Zealand.
It will be the "North African nations, and in reality it already is. At the same time, it should had been us since we are the fault of both region(Sudan), with multiple identities. Oh well. As of now, economically it is South Africa, and nations such as Morocco, and Egypt to a degree especially militarily Egypt is the strongest after South Africa. Nigeria and other Africans nations is weak in that department.

my mistake you said SSA. I don't know really, Ethiopia possible and i am not educated enough about countries such as Tanzania or Angola, but Rwanda shows promise. What is interesting what happening in Jeddah, although is not on the African continent, but at the same time is quite near. It may change the dynamics of the whole North Eastern African region in regards to commerce and trade. Since the Jeddah has a long established communities from North East Africa.

All of them have serious problems. I would lower my expectation to which country can emerge as a decent, well-run country before jumping to Superpower status. None even have the foundations in place. I don't see any superpowers to be honest.

Like @Diasporan Royalty said, the stable countries are too small economically and militarily and the larger more resource rich countries are too chaotic and unstable.

Egypt to a degree.

you have got to be kidding me. Egypt is on a downward spiral. It's a ticking time bomb.

:russ:

What does that have to do with superpower status? You think all it takes is to have a few wealthy individuals?

Even by that metric Africa is at the bottom breh. Sweden has more billionaires than the entire African continent. So does Australia...Taiwan...Turkey..you get the picture.
