Old head used to be one of those flabby and sick heads until I realized I was missing out on some good music. I look for HipHop nostalgia or just the Vibe I get when I was a young dude running the streets when I listen to a lot of the new rappers and if there able to draw me in i'm a fan.

Old head. Gonna be 38 this year. All I know is this: I just quit paying attention to new music. It doesn't move me at all. I don't try to convince anyone I just do me. This is kinda weird because HipHop is all I have ever listened to til this day. I just put Pandora on "Wu Tang" and ride out.

I say that to say: for me the difference is night and day. I don't even consider the new stuff as the same genre. A few songs here and there jump out at me. I rocked to I'm Different for like four days. I'm over it now.

This is basically my outlook. I guess that's the way of the world. But like you, I've only ever listened to hip hop up to this very day...so when I come on this board and see thread after thread about rap I've never even cared to acknowledge if is a bit strange. Apparently 2chainz has a song about birthday cake. Never heard it.

I got called an "old head" because i said that I prefer K. Lamar and J. Cole to rappers like Drake and Lil Wayne because of their ability to tell stories with their songs.

Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole are just as young if not younger than these other new rappers that the 90's babies stan...

Japan, but from the 989
I'm 30 and I listen to everything. I feel like the new cats bring the heat some times but I miss those old days. Helll, I even miss those days when No Limit dropped a new album every other week with the wild color CD cases. Today it seems like a bunch of twitter frontin and gimmicks. And then you got people worshiping Drake. The dude can rap when he wants to..but damn singing the chorus to Drop it like it's hot on the last album!?!?! Skinny Jeans!?!? :shaq2:....

Yes. Yes. Yes. I HATE those nikkas mayne :russ: Like.....I appreciate reading posts from nikkas like @NYC Rebel, @Big Mel or @Rakim Allah because I know they were around back then and just kickin what it really was like. Can't argue with nikkas who lived it :ehh:

But nikkas like Wacky D. I hate that nikka. This nikka swear he an authority on all things 90s......and then in one thread, he let it slip he was born in '86. nikka....you was like fukkin 10 when Pac died. Shut up :russ:

Yeah he does it all the time, hes by far the worst offender talking about what Cold Crush was doing. When I called him out about talking about albums that came out in 90-91 like he remembers certain people being 'weird' or 'not popular' he tried to pass it off like he was exceptional at age 4.

Basically my outlook as well, and I'll be 34. I can't get pumped for practically anything from the early 00's and on, even less within the last few years.

I can't front. This site and it's ancestors have been key for me keeping up with what's happening in 'the Game'. I am fascinated by the f***ery and I eat up every detail of the feuds and competition. So I am loving Hip Hop from afar but I'll never let her go. It's just that 9/10 times I click a link it sounds like I'm being Punk'd. Sometimes I still get surprised by s*** like All Gold Everything (? "popped the molly..."). I swear that s*** sounds like small children made it on toys. Anywayz... That's my issue. I tell myself it's natural and I remember what Prince and Oprah said about my music.

Even at my elderly coli age, im still a little guy in hip hop experience. It's the guys in their early 40s who really saw and lived the greatest of it.

im 21 and i listen to just as much old as new stuff. i dont get why u have to choose sides, just enjoy the music

The reason why certain people choose sides like the 90s when they aren't in their late 20s/early 30s is because they want to look like a purist or an OG Hip Hop head.

Personally, I respect someone more who is honest and says they prefer ASAP Rocky's music right now over Rakim. At least they are being honest and not trying to front like they are listening to Microphone Fiend at house parties.
