CDs are dead

If I buy an album because I want to show support... I'm always going to purchase the physical copy
:takedat:

:leon:I used to be like that but in the last 15 years I've only bought one cd, it was the weeknd trilogy, only because he gave all that music away for free digitally

I just buy digital singles or digital albums now when I wanna show support

Y'all heard of Amazon's AutoRip program?:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201377450

If you buy an album from Amazon, The digital version will be added to your Amazon music library for free.

:myman: Best of both worlds.

16 bits give you a good 96 dB dynamic range. Basically, you're dealing with 40-50 dB as background noise as your quietest background noise floor in your day to day, so realistically, you're starting from there, unless you hang around in specifically designed acoustically dead rooms. That means you've got the headspace to avoid noticeable aliasing artifacts and have your max amplitude be about 135~145 dB, which is well past pain threshold.

24 bit is useful for recording, cause it gives you that headspace to play with, but it's not necessary for listening.

No...

Tidal is HD audio you fool.

Anything higher would be overkill and the file sizes would be too large for something that the human ear can't even hear.....it's a science b.
God himself would come down and smack the hell outta you for playing divine level music

How so...?

The human ear can't hear frequencies over 20 kHz. I don't know exactly how old you are, but it's actually pretty likely that the 20 kHz limit is purely theoretical in most listeners' cases. I think I capped off at about 15 kHz last I checked, and I don't really want to see how much I've lost in the past few years. Regardless, an adult that can hear 20 kHz is pretty rare.

Anyway, with digital signal processing, there's something called the Nyquist Frequency, which essentially states that to accurately capture a sinusoid of a given frequency, you need a sample rate double that. So for regular CD audio, your highest theoretical frequency is 22 kHz. If you have properly mastered albums in each rate, there is no difference you'd be able to tell.

CDs are 16 bit 44k . . will we see a new format for HD audio (24 bit or 32 bit)??

Bring on the audiophile quality music brehs :blessed:
the answer is yes. but not because of Tidal. it will be due to the increased internet speeds. the faster the net is, the larger our hard drives are (Terabytes). The better your streaming experience will be. Its like asking will you be able to stream in HD 8 years ago. Some thought never. but they didnt know that are speeds would be this fast this soon.

24 bit would be cool but 99% of people will not be able to tell the difference. 32 is just wasting space.
you can only tell the difference if its real instrumentation and the song/album is mastered properly. Think about it. if you're using low level samples and a bunch of sythns that are not mastered properly. it wont matter if its 16 or 24bit. you wont get any more clarity in the music's highs lows or mids. But having higher quality real instruments being recored properly and mastered right will make you tell the difference. even for a regular listener. or if the samples you use come from a high quality source. same with the sythns. if they are producing high quality sounds. then yes. the jump from 16 to 24 will matter to your ears.
