"Benjy Grinberg began managing Wiz Khalifa in 2004, when the rapper was 16, and he signed him to his label, Rostrum Records, soon thereafter. Wiz dropped Grinberg as his manager in 2014, though it seems that his deal with Rostrum has continued to this day. His contract with Rostrum is apparently a "360 deal," and Wiz and his legal team are now arguing that it was initiated against his best interests by Grinberg. Yesterday (May 31), Wiz filed a lawsuit against Grinberg and Rostrum with which he hopes to escape his longtime contract. In his suit, Wiz alleges that, in drafting his contract, Grinberg and Rostrum were "faithless fiduciaries in direct contravention of their obligations to him," reports Variety.
An artist's most trusted advisor is his or her personal manager," said Alex Weingarten, Khalifa's attorney at Venable LLP. "Generally, nothing good comes out when the manager decides to go into business against his artist. Unfortunately, that is the case here."

The lawsuit contends that Grinberg took advantage of his young client in order to impel him into a contract that has "reached for more than a decade into virtually every aspect" of his career. Wiz and his attorneys believe that the contract, as well as amendments subsequently made by Grinberg, shows that his former manager deliberately failed to mention alternative business arrangements that would have been beneficial for him to know.

Grinberg said he was "very disappointed and surprised" in a statement responding to yesterday's lawsuit. "To witness an artist turn on you after supporting them for a number of years is very disheartening. This is an egregious lawsuit filled with inaccuracies, yet unfortunately people sometimes resort to these practices as a way of conducting business."

Wiz hopes to end his deal with Rostrum Records, which he feels is justifiable under the California Labor Code's seven-year rule, and he is seeking compensatory damages of $1 million from Grinberg and Rostrum, along with punitive damages and attorney fees. "

Wiz alleges that over that time, Grinberg and Rostrum used the position as his management to guide him into deals that benefited Rostrum more than Wiz, beginning with the 360 deal signed in May 2005 that included one album and five options for additional albums. With the release of his sixth LP Khalifa in February of this year, the suit claims Wiz has fulfilled that contract. Along the way, the suit alleges that Grinberg and Rostrum made an unknown amount of revenue from each release, and entered into deals with Warner Bros. Records and Atlantic Records for his recordings while "intentionally conceal[ing] material information... in order to profit at his expense."
This also kinda implies that Wiz was never independent either :pachaha:

He been signed to Warner/Atlantic from the start. They just put him on the shelf and he hustled his way back into the building.

nikka was signed to Atlantic this whole time and he didnt even know :bryan: , Wiz didnt even have the option to entertain other label deals, cuz his management secretly already signed him off. Them Jews did that boy dirty :wow:

Someone in the industry told me right before Black and Yellow dropped that Wiz signed away his publishing as well. So when you see him on the road that is literally how he eats. He makes nothing off his music. (As far as i heard)

Add Amber Rose and being a drug addict to the mix and this guy will be touring and on the road for the forseeable future.

Now that was what I heard then, reading this makes sense that dude may have looked at all his accounting and figured out that he literally ain't making as much as he supposed.

Just what I heard then but it's not a stretch.

:francis:seems like the deal was working for him when he had nothing and needed their help, and now that he has a name which other people helped him build, he doesn't want that deal anymore. Artists are retarded. Nobody buys albums anymore so if you're gonna accept people's money and help at the beginning, they are gonna need to make money off of your shows and merch. If you don't wanna do that then don't sign the deal:yeshrug:

Wiz was hot, but Rostrum really gave him a shot before anyone else, which included the budget he didn't have before to make better music, better videos, better shows, better merch. And be in position to have a net worth of 37 million (apparently).

Apparently Benjy has a net worth of 15 million (safe to say where alot of that came from).

He knew what he had in Wiz, and locked him up long term like a GM protecting his franchise player. I would do the same. But I totally understand why 10 years later Wiz does not feel the need to be kicking back money to him.
