I used to feel the same way but tbh, having a legit house is overrated.

The maintenance n upkeep is a killer.

So a nice condo/townhouse kitted out with a nice whip is fine by me.

HOA ish is a bother but so is shoveling snow in winter, or working a long day n coming home n seeing the yard needs work.

Or coughing up the bill for a new boiler, etc.

Set it n forget it is your wave? Get a condo/townhouse.

If you OWN the townhouse you still have to pay for a new boiler, shovel the snow, fix things, etc...... You only avoid that if you are renting.
