Woman Injects Heroin While Driving on I-110 and Crashes With Child in Vehicle
On June 8th, 2015, Baton Rouge Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on I-110 around 1:00pm. Upon arrival investigators located the driver of the vehicle, Brandi Roussel, 27, who was unresponsive and had a needle in one of her arms. A 4-year-old child, later discovered to be Roussel’s, was located in the backseat of the vehicle. Also found in the vehicle was a clear bag containing possible narcotics. Roussel was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment.
Investigators later met with Roussel at the hospital for questioning. According to the report, Roussel told investigators she purchased heroin from an unknown location and attempted to inject it while she was driving down the interstate with her child in the rear of the vehicle. She also stated that she does not remember anything after injecting herself and passing out. The report does not indicate whether or not the child was injured in the crash.
Roussel was not booked at the time of the incident for reasons that are unclear, however, a warrant was issued for her arrest this month on charges of Possession of Schedule I Narcotics, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Use of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Minors Present.
She was arrested Tuesday and transported to the EBR Parish Prison where she is currently being held in lieu of a $27,000 bond.
