How much would the same apartment cost in any major city in america, England, France or Canada? :francis:

This is why the Chinese put up with censorship and authoritarianism. They at least get a more affordable lifestyle. We getting censorship, mass surveillance and authoritarianism here while prices are getting jacked up :francis:

This is what AI says about Chinese housing cost.

"How are Chinese rents much lower than US even though their population is larger?"

While housing prices in China may be similar or slightly lower than in the US on a per-square-meter basis, rental costs are reported to be significantly lower, with some sources claiming China's rental prices are 74% cheaper on average than in the US. This phenomenon, despite China's larger population, can be attributed to several factors:
Government Control and Social Welfare:
  • Land ownership: China's government owns all land in common and can control real estate prices, which contributes to maintaining an affordable cost of living.
  • Government initiatives: The Chinese government has implemented policies to develop the rental sector and address housing concerns, including providing tax breaks to property owners who rent out homes and offering incentives to renters. They have also directed local governments to buy empty apartments and convert them into affordable housing, with rents set below market value.
  • Social welfare for tenants: Renters in China may have less social welfare compared to property owners.
Cultural and Market Factors:
  • Direct ownership preference: Chinese investors and individuals overwhelmingly prefer to own real estate, rather than rent.
  • Rental market lag: The existing rental market in China may be struggling to meet residents' housing demands, suggesting a potential gap between supply and demand.
  • Delayed home purchases: The millennial generation in China is getting married and having children later, leading to delayed home purchases and a greater willingness to rent for longer periods.
Potential Tradeoffs:
  • Smaller apartments and amenities: Chinese apartments may be smaller and offer fewer amenities compared to those in Western countries.
  • Construction quality and tenant rights: The quality of construction and maintenance can vary, and tenant rights may not be as strong as in the US.
  • Higher costs in other areas: Potential savings on rent might be offset by higher expenses in areas like healthcare, education, and imported goods.
In essence, a combination of government intervention in land ownership and housing policies, along with a cultural preference for direct ownership and evolving social factors, contribute to lower rental costs in China despite its large population.

She’s saved enough money living in China she cant afford an home in America or China, but can buy a room on a Mexican beach? :mjlol:

Sounds like to me, this lady came from an affordable city like Ann Arbor and moved to expensive city like NY. Chose to work 70 hours on movie/film sets and got burned out. Made the choice to live in China. Nothing wrong with her or her story.

Seems like she couldn’t have done the same thing in any city in America.
