Won’t speak for that man, but crawfish fishing is done similarly around the lakes here. They tie a raw drumstick to a string and stick and throw drum into water. Retrieve it slowly with them attached eating at the chicken and use a net to secure the crayfish. That’s obviously on a small scale, whereas cages are used on a commercial level

Yeah, leave the chicken out till it's rank, we used neck bones. String them up and tie them to a pier. After a while you'll see the string stretched out, pull it in slowly, and slowly put the net behind the crab, and scoop them from the back. The large males would jump if you moved too quickly, the small ones would stay on and you'd have to shake them off. Twice I had a snapping turtle swallow the chicken and we had to cut it off the line. Fun times.

Nah, not like shrimp, they stronger tasting. But they’re good! I suck the heads and allat

I hear some people refer to the yellow stuff inside as butter iirc

Edit- I think they’re all freshwater too as opposed to shrimp being in the ocean. but then hmm, maybe that’s not true of Louisiana. Now I’ll have to look that up lol

It's inhumane and a line has to be drawn at some point. There are people who get off to animal cruelty videos and animal cruelty is a crime for a reason.

To kill a crab there are a couple spots on its underside that you pierce with a knife and they're killed instantly

When it comes to bigger animals like bulls or goats, from what I saw growing up the elders would knock out the animal between the eyes with a sledgehammer or the blunt side of an axe. They drop instantly knocked out cold or possibly dead on the spot. Then their throat is cut. They never cut the throat whole the animal was conscious.
