Because most of us are buying industrial meat we have completely lost the culture and understanding on how to handle animals we kill for consumption.
Japanese people use the freshest seafood and they have human methods or killing fish because they understand that not only is it humane it there are also stress toxins that can be released if you let an animal live in fear or die brutally. I don't blame you or anyone that doesn't think it matters. You are not in an environment anymore where you have the time and the knowledge to observe and understand why it matters. We are just going to the store and buying shyt. But best believe this was knowledge a lot of cultured had. And if you took the time to research it you would find that people around the world arrived at similar conclusions. It does matter how she animal dies and lives. It affects you directly as you eat it.
You only believe this because animals can't talk.
If you did the same thing to a human nobody would be saying you treated them humanely. you would be called a monster
Facts are, murder is murder. There is not nice way to murder. No kind way to murder. No living thing ever consents to being murdered.
You are separating families. eating children and parents. You try to moralize to make yourself feel better about it, And make imaginary distinctions about where the line is. Not a single prisoner on death row is thankful for lethal injection simply because its more humane than being hanged to death. They call for stays of execution none the less.
and i say this as a person who has never cooked a living crab or lobster before. I don't see you any differently than those who do.
