Women initially more hurt by breakups, but recover better: study

Ladies, we have good and bad news on the breakup front. The good news: You'll probably get over the split faster than your male ex. The bad news: You'll feel more pain in the meantime, according to a new study published in Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences. Researchers asked 5,705 people in 96 countries to rate the emotional and physical pain of a breakup on a scale of one (what pain?) to 10 (agonizing pain) via an online survey. Women reported greater pain emotionally—a 6.84 compared to 6.58 in men—and physically—a 4.21 versus 3.75 in men. The differences may seem small, but they're statistically significant, reports Fusion. And there's an evolutionary explanation: "Women are evolved to invest far more in a relationship than a man" since it could result in pregnancy, says lead author Craig Morris in a press release. They're "choosier about selecting a high-quality mate" so a loss hurts more.

Men may feel the breakup less at first, but Morris says "the man will likely feel the loss deeply," perhaps for months or years, "as it 'sinks in' that he must 'start competing' all over again to replace what he has lost—or worse still, come to the realization that the loss is irreplaceable." Here, women have the advantage. When they realize it's time to move on, they "recover faster and more fully," Morris says, per the Courier Mail. And recover we all must, according to Morris, a professor at Binghamton University in New York: He says the average person goes through three breakups before he or she hits 30, at least one of which is painful enough that it lowers his or her quality of life for weeks or months. The study authors note that lack of communication "was the most prevalent breakup cause" and that women were more likely to initiate the breakup.

in my experience breaks up get progressively better. i just got dumped and i'm not even upset about it. Sounds like bullshyt to make females feel better.

I can see this being true but that's because women are allowed to express their feelings and be hurt and no one questions them.

As man you're expected to get over that shyt quick and move on. So a lot of us never get the chance to grieve properly. So I believe a lot of dudes may be initially just as hurt as women but we hide that shyt.

Its simply because most women can get ass virtually whenever they want. A couple of great nuts will get the mind back in order. Dudes have to at the least put a little talk game in and if your hurting from a break up, you may not have the will to do so.

Men and Women absolutely let themselves go in a relationship. Get sloppy. Especially for men, our game takes a nose dive. That shyt needs constant sharpening.

Because woman fall back on the fact that they can choose from a pool of men so losing one won't matter, which is how most of them think when in, and ending a relationship.

Until they realize they have to go through jerks, playas, a-holes all over again which probably means they'll be passing themselves around again to the dudes who they "thought were nice". In the process gaining more bodies and getting older over time.

Worse case scenario she pops one out by some loser by the time she hits 30 but nobody is actually checking for a 30 year old past her prime with a baby. At the end of the day she realizes this so she just copes with the fact that she may be lonely forever or an extremely long time.

I don't think they mean finding someone new that's really easy I think they mean just dealing with the loss. My friends & my siblings helped a lot with that. I think it's because women are more open with our feelings so it's a lot easier to get over it, while a guy just keeps it in and lets it eat away at him until it becomes too much then it takes a while for him to come back from it.

As head of "Hurt Brothas of America" I second this message. At my worst, no one wanted to hear me, and while didn't wanna whine to anyone, i couldnt make sense of how dirty i was done. I had no support, just guys telling me to "get some p*ssy" when what i really wanted was for someone to sit there sharing and listening to tales about women.

Only logical choice was to swallow the anguish and share it with as many women as i could for as long as i could.
