Goku being stupid is pretty much a character trait. Since the beginning of Dragonball Goku was portrayed as a naive idiot. He was a martial arts genius though.

They got on just fine. Pretty sure King Kai actually finally got laid in the afterlife because of it. Finally got off that rock and started socializing with people. There was no other place he could have taken Cell. Logic instead of emotion tells anyone that saving 7 billion > 3 individual lives. No one in a situation that has to make a similar call is choosing otherwise. Point blank.
And that's just lazy, shytty writing by Toriyama. Again, because it's Goku nikkas can't get mad. Dude never has to deal with any blacklash of his shytty decisions. Nobody ever said shyt bout Goku never being there as a father. Nobody said shyt bout him never being there for Chi-Chi. nikkas give Goku all types of passes.

All of those words yet none of them explain why Goku deserved to be "the man." Vegeta had a big ego and wanted to be stronger than his rival. That's more explanation for his character than Goku getting passes about shyt that people would scrutinize Vegeta for. Yeah, we see Goku saving the world; he's a hero. We see him being light-hearted and naive; he's likable.
