Working At A New Job, Need Advice

First of all just want to let everyone know I have been making a concerted effort to improve my life.

-I exercise in the morning and do cardio (walk around a track near my home).

-Do pushups/sit ups

-Been practicing driving and plan to get my license before December is up.

I appreciate the advice you all gave and am sorry for asking for advice in the past and never acting on it. Even though I feel bad at times I am really truing to get it together. I am 31 and I have to step up.


Anyway the point of the thread is I have been working as a busser for two weeks and just got my paycheck. I am only paid 2.89 an hour and I haven't received any tips at all. My manager hasn't explained the tip policy to me, I don't even know if I get any tips. The waiters/servers get tips I know. I assumed they were supposed to share it with the bussers correct?

I wash dishes many times when I don't have any tables to clean and the dishwasher made 7.25 an hour.

My manager said I'm doing a good job and the waiters thank me for what I do so I sort of nervous to confront my manger about this. Am I being taken advantage of? Should I look for another job?

EDIT: Also, the first few days I wasn't even bussing tables. He had me washing dishes and preparing the silverware and putting them in packets. I was getting paid 2.89 an hour on those days doing responsibilities that I wasn't even going to be tipped for yet he paid me 2.89 an hour on all the responsibilities he had me do.

Man, I'm scared. I don't like confronting people and am worried he will try to convince me to stay. I am just going to tell him I feel that I should have been paid more and feel it is not fair.

I don't know what the laws are. I do work in a kitchen though. Breh, don't do anyone's job but you're own. If you want to wash dishes, get paid for doing that, if you want to bus, bus, don't be too helpful in a kitchen.

Nobody wants to do all their work but they want to make all their money.

You're showing initiative and flexibility which is ideal, but kitchen politics are shady my G. If you're going to help anyone help the cooks and buyers because they'll help you, and you'll learn the two key positions in a kitchen making you worth more because you can make your business more money.

Don't confront anybody! That's not the move here G. Fall back son, be jiggy, and make power moves. That involves being aware of what your next move is.

Is this just a job, or are you interested in this field? You can make good money in it, but you gotta work smart and hard.

If you don't mind physical work you prolly can find a warehouse job paying like 14/15 an hr

just gather proof that he only paid you 2 dollars an hour and you didnt make any money with tips and then tell him pay me minimum wage plus what you owe or im filing a civil suit

and also in the meantime file a wage claim and follow the guidelines for wherever you live

At the very least he should have explained the tip policy to me by now correct? Never would have taken the job if I knew I was only paid $2.89 an hour.
