There's a trend reversal most small businesses and stores are closed today in my neighborhood.

Major retail stores open around midnight for Black Friday but in general the trend has been giving people the day off (optionally) in NYC unless they really push for it.

Depends on your level if you are a store manager with authority to open the store you can probably choose. But most people are struggling these days with bullshyt part-time jobs so most opt for the extra holiday pay to pay for those presents.

When I was 16 working at a local grocery store here folks working on old contracts got triple time on holidays .

All the old cashiers and department managers would be caking .

They get holiday pay then get double time for working that day .
