Yeah but Americans belief in the bootstraps concept has been around for awhile, and yet the mental issues were not present before. It's more so a difference in the psychological and social utility of money that has changed.


I also think that the internet/media today allows for more accessibility to extravagant consumerism, which is just overload.

I've never looked at a job especially in the corporate world, as anything other than a means to support myself. All these people who look to work for meaning are losers in my opinion.


Especially if you are just an employee. If working for something you don't own is your life's mission and not a paycheck, you might as well call your boss daddy. :dame:

I also think it's cultural. In my experience, white people tend to look for meaning via work. Black and other minorities in my opinion, look at work like a means to end.

This is why I always say that some people live to work while others work to live. It's also a structural difference between the US and Europe, and then between Northern Europe and Southern Europe. Even tho less so these past years as US influence has only gotten bigger.
