How many of those people were black?

a few, actually :mjpls: ... but we are underrepresented in finance/consulting to begin with.

that said, if you're black with an ivy league degree, you're essentially a unicorn that you can really leverage in the ultra-competitive job market if you know how to. also helps that decent amount of black folk at these institutions are already middle-class/upper middle class... for "assimilation" purposes :mjpls:

BINGO!

I never understood why so many kids major in "Communications". Is it supposed to be easy or some shyt? :why:
Sometimes i feel like it's one of those majors where after you've been in school for 6 years taking bullshyt easy classes and suddenly need to graduate so a counselor just looks at all the useless classes on your transcript that didnt teach you much skills and goes:
"Well we can fit those into a Communications degree curriculum and you'll walk/graduate next friday" :ld:
And the student does a fist-pump and walks

:mjlol:

Well I did hear that going to top schools like that you can get a job with any major because of the name of the school.

How do you feel about other universities?

...then it shifts to being more determined by the individual, connections, ambition, etc. an innovative "go-getter" who thinks smart can still succeed from any university w/ practically any major as far as I'm concerned.

STEM is also not always pragmatic...despite the circle-jerk. You couldn't pay me to major in Biology to end up in a lab or pursuing a PhD.

Engineering/CS/IT/Applied Math I would def love to see the brehs in en masse, though. Demand is great right now for it.

In reference to my previous post

I meant no disrespect to anyone with a communications degree.:whoa:
It's just that too often I run into people with that degree (some even relatives of mine) that got that degree but never really had a plan on how it was going to be put to use.

How do you recommend to make connections ? Frats ?

I was planning on joining some groups, not really about that frat life.

I've probably said this a million times in threads like this, but College is just a big networking opportunity. You can get a lot farther regardless of your degree if you really try hard on making the right connections. If you plan on just sitting their and hoping a great GPA will get you into a job, you'll probably be shot out of luck even if you're in a STEM field.

No degree is worthless. If it's the reason you're gainfully employed, then it served it's purpose.

Whether that purpose was:
  • attending the school to gain connections to finesse your way into middle management,
  • because the job you're applying for (that's totally unrelated to your field of study) requires a bachelor's,
  • or because you're actually going into/working in the field you majored in...
It obviously has value so calling it worthless is inaccurate.
Whether or not your alma mater was worth the debt you accumulated is another issue

At the very least a bachelor's degree in anything can open the door to professional school (IF YOU HAVE STELLAR GRADES)

My sister went to med school after she with a psych degree and a couple of extra science classes which she took after she graduated.

Thing is can you get a job to take care of yourself with any degree while attending medical school ? Or do you have to take out hella loans just to focus on only school ?

There are entry level gov jobs at the state or city level that only require a degree in any field. Most involve doing administrative bs and pay around 30k to start but If you get in young and work your way up you will be fine.

Hella loans. But you have to look at it as a capital investment. Yes she came out with $200k+ in loans but after residency she's making $500k replacing kneecaps all day long.
