I don't see how an extra 2 games improves the product when most teams who are in the playoff race are trying to rest players or half their team is hurt. I'm glad Banks called out Goodell in the article...outside of money there's no reason to add more games. They hold keep the current schedule & drop 2 preseason games, at the very least one. That 4th preseason game is COMPLETELY meaningless, starters usually don't even play
It's all about money.
Ticket sales, network TV advertising, NFL Ticket cable/satellite package revenue, etc.

Kinda off topic but some people have brought up the whole player safety angle they try to pass on while trying to add more games..

Have y'all seen the Eagles and Bills schedule this year?

The eagles play their first 3 games in 11 days, I think it's something like Monday,Sunday,Thursday

And the Bills have 6 games where they play a team coming off a bye or a Thursday night game.. And these NFL guys wanna talk about player safety? :upsetfavre:

Honestly, the best thing for football would be to go back to 12-14 games imo. They need a better union in the worst way.

Nooooo

Less is more.

I was thinking that maybe they should go BACK to 14.

Besides the whole "player safety" hypocrisy of doing all this about making players safer, yet asking them to play two more games a year, there's the whole issue of just every season in sports is now TOO fukkIN' LONG.

They play the Super Bowl in February. FEBRUARY!

It's supposed to be played in January.

It's like a movie that goes on for 4 hours. Even if it's a good one, it's gotta be condensed in a way that doesn't take up your whole day.

This Roger Goodell plan is DOA. You cant speak upon the need to make the game safer, then add two games on the schedule. The league has undergone exponential growth under 16 games. Its the amount where it needs to stay. The playoffs would either have a lame duck Week 19 and Week 20s, or we will see many backup players in the most important playoff games. That is horrible for the game.

Ravens and Eagles both played 4 games in 17 days last season. It's pretty clear that no fukks are being provided here. 16 games is perfect IMO. That said if player safety is truly paramount then they would be pushing to cut games rather than add them.
