Literally the whole "new Black media" movement which has raised awareness for reparations emerged on social media.

Kevin Samuels who TLR loves to dikkride(and I say that as a fan) emerged from social media.

Tons of videos giving people advice on budgeting, grooming, real estate, fitness, dieting, investments, entrepreneurship, etc. that they never received before emerged from social media.

Successful Black people who don't reinforce negative stereotypes such as Tony Baker and Tabitha Brown blew up on social media.

The main reason many of ya'll know some of your relatives and childhood friends haven't died yet is because of social media.

The very platform we're using to discuss these type of topics is on social media.

You can't just look at the lowest common denominator and think that's what 90% of social media is. There's always going to be social media f*ckery and degeneracy but there's a lane and algorithm for everyone on social media.

Discussion forums=OG form of social media

Social media is a collective term for websites and applications that focus on communication, community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration. People use social media to stay in touch and interact with friends, family and various communities
I look at message boards as a community. Some of these people you learn about because it encourages conversations. This medium is more text based

IG and TikTok are more visually based and less engaging. Also not as community driven.

When OP mentions social media I think he's talking about the later.

Probably
But we were on fukk shyt before social media existed in the 80s and 90s
Introducing technology should not be detrimental for a community, they should figure out ways to use it positively.
The issue is us.
