The big confusion is people think lyrical rapper could easily make a catchy club song , but more often then not they come off sounding corny and out of place hence why backpack rapper have to do "mock-club bangers" if they try this avenue. The Game essential is a rapper with as much skill as crooked I who can make music that is more entertaining

Crooked had complete backing of Tha Row in early 2000 during the West Coast resurgence, and made tracks with Scott Storch and Sisqo, and still couldn't find a hit. He just wasn't made to be a commercial superstar.

Crooked is a dope spitter, but more often than not his rapping gets in the way of his overall songwriting ability in my opnion e.g. punchlines for the sake of punchlines. When he's on point though, he can make amazing music.





I'm looking forward to his new album Apex Predator, be good to finally get a Crooked CD on the shelves.

then again, put him on Aftermath/G-Unit in 04 & who knows what would've happened (fukkin Tony Yayo has a gold album because of 50 & that was without Dre's help), if Crooked had worked with 50 & Dre it obviously would've helped him just like it helped Game. But would have he been as big as Game? probably not.

I think he could have blown up around 97-00. The market is just different now and he doesn't have the certain set of skills to blow up. He's a top lyricist but he doesn't have the total or even the half package to become marketable

True... Eastsidaz had a platinum & gold album in the early 00s, he probably could've been as big as they were if he had been signed to or just mentored/co-signed by Snoop or Dre & on a real label (= not on new Death Row). For example, look what workin with Dre did for Xzibit's career, it's not like he was the most "marketable artist" early in his career either.

Crooked I has the same problems Ras Kass did....

First being that when they try to make a 'single' it sounds bad/forced.

Second being that they had label issues.

Third being that neither are really marketable from a mainstream stand point. No compelling story, no catchy songs.

Normally i'd agree, i'm not a fan of so & so would succeed if only...arguements but the game really is a poor 'artist' with no identity who struggles with song writing & really had a banging debut album with smash singles gift wrapped like no one else possibly ever

Hold on so u nikkas gon just act like 50 ain't the reason GAME had hits....yes if Dre wuz making beats for him and prime 50 wrote hooks to get him hot Crooked I would have had a better showing then game....do u actually like Documentary for what Game is bringing to it?Crooked I spitting on Higher ,or How We Do?or Dreams would've made the songs worst?...once your foots in the door its a lot easier to continue to make good records and have people look at them as great records instead of just another failure...u nikkas woulda loved boom boom clap if it wuz on Documentary....for crooked it wuz just another failed commercial attempt and supposedly proof as to why he ain't a star......there's nuthin prime deathrow crooked couldn't have done better than game aside from maybe trollling....which I will say the beefs and other bullshyt he wuz apart of helped make Game popular too.....so I guess yes and no....Crooked can't compete with Games troll game and attention whoring

50 cent did write those hooks because those songs were originally his second album after get rich and gave those songs to game that's why he gets writers credit for the hooks. but nothing else u act like entire verses or verses for game which he did'nt.
