It's most certainly fraud. Enforcement would be dependent upon who exactly you fool. If some old white lady somewhere gets caught up, then they definitely gonna come find you.



Your issue will most likely be in how the money gets transfered to you. If it even touches the US financial system then it's felony wire fraud. I'm iffy on whether this is f.b I or secret service territory but one of them got jurisdiction.



You could probably do what the Indians and Nigerians do and ask for medication-money for the imaginary pet through i-tunes gift cards. But it gets so obvious at this point that you'd have to fish through 10s of thousands of stupid people for a single person to give you a 25$ gift card. Might as well just get your a+ cert at that point.
