Would Nnamdi Asomugha Be A Borderline Hall Of Famer If He Stayed In Oakland?

Think about it...

He has always been pretty good / above average , but what we are starting to see is that in the past Oakland was so bad that they would just throw away from him doing many things.

1) Creating the stigma of shutdown corner
2) Building confidence
3) Allowing average stats to be justified by the fact he was never being thrown to.

Obviously now he will go down in the Clinton Portis hall of shame, but I was thinking about this today - what are people's thoughts?

Absolutely. Look at some of his seasons in Oakland

1."Opposing quarterbacks tested him only 31 times with a mere 10 completions the entire season. One NFL scout told Pro Football Weekly that Asomugha was thrown at "less than any defender in the last ten years" in 2007"- Pro football weekend(ProFootballWeekly.com)

2.A team captain again in 2009 and the NFL's least targeted cornerback by an extremely wide margin, Asomugha was challenged by opposing quarterbacks only 27 times and allowed 13 completions the entire season. After his performance against the Houston Texans, head coach Gary Kubiak said "Asomugha is the best (corner) I've seen in a while throughout this league. He's big, he's fast, they put him out there on an island the whole game. He's an exceptional player"

I've come to the conclusion that opposing teams didn't test him because the Raiders were stupid enough to stubbornly keep him strictly on one side where teams easily scheme him out of a game.

Norfeast groovin…
Clinton Portis is way more of a HOFer than Aso. Al really dropped the ball on not trading him when we had the chance, we didn't use him all over the field like you'd find in most defenses so that helped dupe people. It's funny cuz he was trash in his first few years, I suppose he's gonna be trash in his last few.

Exactly...they didnt throw on to him because he was a threat. They just threw to the opposite side since he never moved.

:ahh: I thought that he used to be on that juice when he was on the Raiders. He used to be a great tackler. But, he always had issues with speedy receivers, but he was able to match up with tall and lengthy receivers though. :ehh:

I don't think corners have that many "prime" years in them. After about three peak seasons they usually fall off and just become average (aside from Deion).
