That's what they tried to do with Family Matters, but Urkel crushed the buildings.

Iono, though. If the Huxtable's wasn't balling like that, a lot of the episodes/situations
would not have happened probably. Claire wouldn't have spent all that bread on that
painting, off top...

Every sitcom borrowed some element from The Cosby Show in some form or fashion. Modern Family is basically white Cosby Show

Yupp. Jerry Seinfeld said himself he stole alot from Cosby and used it on Seinfeld
Ray Ramano said Cosby influenced him, and used it on Everybody Loves Raymond
Damon Wayans said Cosby influenced him and used it on My Wife and Kids

Great show but not thought of instantly like the aforementioned.:yeshrug:
Rock wasn’t as funny as the Cosby show

… and that’s why the Cosby Show was a hit

… black excellence was a bonus

It would’ve been different. Imagine if James Evans was a doctor. Everything about the show would’ve been different.

If elements like the charisma and chemistry was still present yes It still would have been a hit.

That's funny, because I never found The Cosby show to be particularly funny. I mean, it was funny but not "haha" funny. I always saw it as a great "comical" show, but not as a "comedy."

Above the fray.
Can’t hate on the Cosby show. Affluent black family, hbcu constantly repped, black doctor and lawyer.

I’m old, so I understand the desire to see proud, successful black representations on tv.
It's documented that applications and enrollment at HBCUs went up around the time A Different World was in the first season.

Cosby Show + spinoff were groundbreaking and influential in ways that younger generation might not appreciate or understand.

Now, if we're going to keep it 100, there was a small segment of critics when it aired on some "bu bu bu but it's not realistic" "Black people are suffering financially in this era" shyt. Never understood that line of criticism.

I was actually a little kid back then … maybe you watched it in reruns

No lol
Nah, cause to Hollywood, the black working class family always equals struggling family...so a lot of those light hearted episodes we got because they had money wouldnt have happened
