Would The Old Boy Remake Have Been Better Received If Spike Lees Name Wasnt On It

I didn't see either movies the original or Spike Lee's joint but all I can remember is Spike getting more bad press about wanting to set up a kickstarter for his next movie then this movie getting any promotion. Then you would have people hating on him for doing a kickstarter but other directors do it and they don't get the bad press that he was getting.

I completely disagree and laugh when people say silly shyt like this. I loved Infernal Affairs and was pissed when I heard about The Departed....didn't care who was acting or directing it.

Now I actually like the Departed better than Infernal Affairs. It just did it better IMO. Old Boy remake simply was not better than the original.

You go into films with a bias because you're one of those guys who feels special being up on a movie few people have seen. You cant be sold on remakes no matter what.

It was a good movie still. I think some people are just remake elitists. You cant win with those type of people. Old boy is a good film but it aint all LLAAAAT. Both were good films though. When that rich cac went on the killing spree bodying his family i was like

I haven't seen the remake yet but I feel like he should have chosen the least popular one to remake from the trilogy and I mean Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance.

It was decent. Never saw the original. The problem with Spikes version is pacing, and the fact that he telegraphed the reveal so blatantly. Samuel Jackson in a distracting Mohawk doing his mailed in 'Jules' schtick didn't add anything to the film either, it seemed gratuitous.

I have a theory as to why cacs hated this so passionately and it has to do with them being Asian fetishists/Asianophiles.

They can't stand the idea of a "n1gger" discovering some obscure Asian "classic" and re-interpreting or interpolating it for art's sake. It goes against their elitist mindset. The fact that the n1gger is Spike Lee seals the deal, it was doomed from the jump.

Just saw this on Netflix. It's wasn't great, but it was good entertaining movie. The og is still better, but reading some of the reviews of the remake. People Nitpicking about every little thing about it. My two only gripes about the movie was the main villain, and Sam's character being over the top.
