Obviously, me & you lived in two different worlds.

In your world, Beyonce was already a huge solo superstar in 2002 and everybody knew she would sell 10 million albums on her debut.

In my world, Beyonce was the lead singer of a successful group that everybody knew she wanted to leave but, nobody was sure she could do it alone.

I was simply drawing comparisons. You're an exec at Columbia in 2002 & its a delicate situation. You have this attractive, charismatic singer with loads of talent. If her album soars, she's a star & everybody gets promoted. If her album flops, she's the biggest dumbass in the music industry for breaking up her successful group. So what do you do? You put the hottest rapper at the time on her first single & the hottest reggae artist at the time on her second.

Beyoncé Goes Solo, with a Lot of Help - Beyonce Knowles : People.com

Then you give her a role on the Austin Powers flick. Then you make her the face of Pepsi. Meanwhile the other girl singers had none of that on their debuts. You seem to think that's purely coincidental :merchant: it's comical to me that you think she wasn't pushed.

Aight, so wait... you mean... a record label... had a 10-million-selling group... and the lead singer, the only one who was seen as the star of the group is soon to drop a solo album... and they did things to further promote her and solidify her as a breakout star? GETATTAHERE!

Here's a lil' secret about the music industry: once you've already established yourself as a household name (and she had- let's not act like she was nameless and faceless while a member of DC), you're PROBABLY more likely to be pushed and promoted and get endorsements and shyt like that. But it's BECAUSE she was already a star, not because they were trying to make her one.

I never said she was a huge solo superstar when Aaliyah died... but as cliche as the comparison is, it's like when Diana Ross was heading the Supremes. The lead singer is CLEARLY the lead star, the other two members are known as "the other two", and she has her own album coming out soon. What else did you THINK was gonna happen? There was no surprise that she was gonna blow up... the surprise woulda been if she DIDN'T.

It's like you're arguing a point I've acknowledged with the same point. OK, so Beyonce already had advantages when she debuted solo... point being what? I just fail to see what this has to do with whether or not Aaliyah's death had anything to do with Beyonce's success.

B a better singer and performer. Aayliyah made better music. Simple. B is a pop star too. A was urban music. Btw. Aayliah would have been a huge actress, y'all know she was gonna have alead role in The Matrix and was attached to some other quality projects too right?

The role she was going to get in the Matrix wasn't a lead role. The part she had wasn't big at all.

are you joking

That "lack of soul" criticism of Beyonce is really kinda bullshyt. She has a lot of soulful material in her discography. The fact of the matter is thats not what you are going to hear. The masses want to hear Single Ladies and Freakum Dress. So thats what get played 1000 times a day.
