Much love to the beautiful Aaliyah but the fact is she wasn’t as talented as Bey and frankly it’s not really that close :yeshrug:

Aaliyah would’ve washed out by like 2003 or 2004 if she lived
I agree. Let’s face it damn near every black female artist fell off going into the late 2000’s except Beyoncé and Alicia Keys. Then Rihanna came through and crushed the buildings and it’s just her and Beyoncé really with a few names that pop up here and there.

I may have responded to this thread already. Anyway, my take is this:

1) Beyonce was going to be Beyonce even when Aaliyah was alive. Beyonce just wasn't solo yet, but I don't see how Aaliyah being alive changes Beyonce's trajectory. Doesn't make sense

2) This whole notion that Aaliyah wasn't talented or couldn't sing needs to stop. Yes, she had dope writers and producers, but even artists greater than Aaliyah benefited from dope writers and producers. There's artists that flopped or were nowhere near successful using the same writers and producers as Aaliyah. Changing Faces had entire albums helmed by R. Kelly and still weren't as successful as Aaliyah. Timbaland and Missy helmed albums from other artists that weren't as successful as Aaliyah.

Any Coli nikka would sound good over prime Timbaland/ R.Kelly production.:manny:

It’s funny you mentioned Alicia cause she was a superstar who was right there with beyonce sales and hit wise but then fell off a cliff

That first album was like a phenomenon

Latter parts of this thread looks so much different than the former, but then again Beyonce is in a much different place than she was in 2012.

Nothing outside of a major scandal was gonna stop Beyonce's rise.

Aaliyah got a stronger catalogue and singles tho.

Beyonce would've still done her thing in addition to Aaliyah still knocking out hits.

I think a heavy factor additionally is what if Brandy had not had that accident.

She had so much more potential to share with the world as a full-on well-rounded artist. I mean that basically derailed her late 20's to early 30's.

Beyonce's wack ass debut first single completely flopped "Work It Out" summer 2002
She had to push her first album back a whole year while Ashanti(Commercially) and Amerie(Creatively) ran 2002 R&B

Aaliyah was already gone and she was still struggling until she jacked Amerie's producer/sound and put out "Crazy In Love"
got with Jay(Aaliyah old bf) and came out with a remade 2pac song "03 Boniie & Clyde"
like Ashanti/Nas/Murda INC already did a year before ("The Pledge")

Aaliyah was gonna star the Matrix sequels her next album would have done dumb numbers she would have been ruling

No they wouldn't. I don't know a Coli artist on here who even sings. And that wasn't my point. It wouldn't guarantee success. Tell me why Changing Faces wasn't as successful as Aaliyah? Sparkle?

Nicole Wray had "Make It Hot", huge song. Whole album written and produced by Missy and while " Make It Hot" was the sole Timbo track, the single went gold, but her album didn't.

Aaliyah had songs that were hits that had nothing to do with R. Kelly, Missy, or Timbaland. Aaliyah is a huge catalyst in Missy and Timbaland's success. "If Your Girl Only Knew" was the biggest song either of them had written or produced up to that point.
