the real hiphop.
Im one of Beyonce's biggest critics on this site when it comes to her (soulless) music but even I cant co-sign this thread. In 2001 Beyonce was already huge through Destinys Child, in fact she was singing near every damn lead on their hits. She had a huge buzz in the industry, everybody was expecting/waiting for her to drop something solo. Her solo success was expected and she woulda been huge even if Aaliyah didn't die.

uh huh.....sure :rudy:

So you're saying... people knew who the hell Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, and Ashanti were before they debuted?

You're saying... that by the time Beyonce's solo shyt had dropped, she was not the lead singer and the face of the biggest female R&B group of the previous five years, a group that by then many people had already felt she was carrying?

Don't do the message board thing and cling on to your wrongness like everybody else is crazy and none of this stuff actually happened. I can acknowledge she had guest artists on two of her singles (I don't think Usher being in a video is the same as being on the song itself)... why is it hard for you to acknowledge the difference between Beyonce's debut and the debuts of three singers who had no track record prior to their album dropping?

Bottom line is... no, Aaliyah's death did not facilitate Beyonce's success... Beyonce was already a star before Aaliyah died. Anyone who says otherwise either doesn't remember or is letting their dislike of Beyonce's music shield them from reality.

Aaliyah got around in the industry and part of her fame was because of the connections she made in the industry, not so much her actual talent.

how is beyonce wack? smh

beyonce is a wayyyyy better singer than aaliyah and she's a better performer, whose songs are better is subjective. aaliyah is my chick tho, its just that beyonce is one of the special ones, we don't get many beyonce's.

quoting myself :ld:

Aight, I'll bite...

When Aaliyah was "shutting shyt down"... she was making a lot of hits. Fair enough. But her competition wasn't Mariah, Whitney, and Toni- because I don't even feel like their fanbases were the same. It ain't like she was knockin' them out the box, that's just exaggeration. Mariah Carey and Whitney were about as close to being Aaliyah's competition as Celine Dion and Melissa Etheridge were. And that's not to downplay Aaliyah cause she was dope, but to think her presence was stopping careers is false- evidenced by the number of female acts who were doing just as well as she was at the time- i.e. Brandy, Monica, MJB, Mya...

You know you can give Aaliyah props without having to shyt on Beyonce right?

For the record though Aaliyah wasn't half the entertainer Beyonce is. Now is Beyonce over exposed...thats a whole other discussion.

I like Aaliyah she was good at what she did, but real is real and B will go down with the greats. She's not just an R&B singer she's a pop icon!

seems like this thread gets made every summer. nice to see it get shut down immediately.

theres no need for me in this thread. but lol @ monica not being relevant. and did somebody just downplay ginuwine? wtf? thats a legend.

if you dont follow r&b, you really shouldnt make big statements.

Aaliyah got around in the industry and part of her fame was because of the connections she made in the industry, not so much her actual talent.

she was barry hankerson's niece.

thats why i find it funny how people try to diss beyonce for being raised to sing by her pops. matthew knowles wasnt an industry figure back then. he was more like joe jackson.

Yet Aaliyah made better music.....go figure :ld:

no. r.kelly & timbaland/missy made better music.
