you just proved my point. selling more than 74k is nothing to brag about.

and the thing is, she was a bigger deal when those 2 albums dropped, as opposed to her last joint.

she wouldve been happy just to go gold in '01.

more you speak, the more uninformed you sound.

every Aaliyah album was a slow burner. if you wasn't a hater, you'd know that. small first week numbers, grindin it out with multiple singles over time with album each eventually going 3x platinum or more.

Aaliyah wasn't hotter in 2001 but, she moved 100,000 extra records first week :heh: One in the Million took 3 months to go gold. Aaliyah took 5 weeks :heh: Either you know something the numbers aren't saying or you're full of shyt.

I think everyone has conceded that Beyonce is the more popular one out of the two.

so what are we arguing about?

shes not as talented as beyonce either.

lol @ you of all people, trying to call anybody uninformed.

like a wise man said in another thread, sometimes you had to be there. first week sales werent as much of a focus back when she dropped her 1st 2 albums, and she had a much bigger buzz.

she was clearly on the downside in 2001. maybe not in your eyes because you were just really starting to get into music then. her buzz was fizzled in comparison to the other albums. "we need a resolution" wasnt big and the 2 singles that followed wouldve been lesser hits had she lived.

and even then, the album only went 1x platinum despite being shoved down our throats 24/7 for a whole year.

HELL NO!!!! :rudy:

There's a lot of legendary singers you're disrespecting by saying that.

Vocally yes....she is one of the best singers of all time..definately. don't confuse your preference of what you like to hear with the actual skill of singing. Beyonce is one of the most skilled singers EVER...she is one of the best live on the spot singers as well.

Of my generation..or singers I grew up listening to..here's a few examples of some of the best skilled singers.

Whitney Houston
Beyonce
Celine Dion

...I'm talking about singers that can really blow and actually sing the way any engineer or song writer would want them to sing without struggling.

There's current male singers out there that dont make super dope music or aren't that popular that are more skilled singers than too singers as well. Don't give song writers and engineers credit for who's the best singer.

For example..usher or a neyo probably make better music than say...Mario...but I guarantee you if you ask some engineers or people that REALLY no vocals..they will tell you Mario will eat these nikkas food in some straight singing ability shyt.

Listen to the vocals of "hardest moment of my life" off Mario's DNA album..he can do that live...neyo nor usher can sing that good even with engineers doctoring it up.

Now do the same Beyonce....

Lol@Aaliyah..smh

Please do not compare the gawdess Stephanie to Bey.

She cool, but let's not go crazy here :rudy:

Nobody compared the two... I said the song sounds like something she woulda sang in the '80s. THE SONG. Not the voice ON the song.

And LOL @ homie goin' all the way back to 1969 and pullin' out a Willie Hutch record to tell me what soul is... so if it doesn't sound like it came out 43 years ago, I guess it's not soul eh? :what:

I don't even have a horse in this race honestly... I like Aaliyah's music more than Beyonce's. But NOBODY in this thread has YET given a valid point as to whether or not Aaliyah's death facilitated Beyonce's success. I guess it's because we all know the answer to that. Let's not start turnin' Aaliyah into the Whitney/Aretha of her generation or some shyt, c'mon now...

From first page.
The two are in different lanes. Aaliyah was more R&B while Beyonce is pop.

If Aaliyah stayed alive, she wouldn't have impacted Beyonce's success.

Aaliyah selling 74k or 100k her first week wasn't gonna stop someone that's sold 75M from doing her thing.

They're in different lanes. It's like saying Lady Gaga and Adele couldn't blow at the same time. They make different music so they're both able to sell.

Someone mentioned earlier that Aaliyah was selling at a time when Whitney, Mariah, Monica and Brandy were selling as well, so if that's possible, why wouldn't it be possible for Aaliyah and Brandy?

You guys smoking sherm. Beyonce doesn't have any song coming close to 1 in a Million. Aaliyah has CLASSICS. Classics that will be played forever. smh.

Aaliyah ONE IN A MILLION shyts on Beyonce's whole catalog.

Although I respect Beyonce's talent, I can't front like she's an original when she's just as much a product of writing/production as Aaliyah. I will give Beyonce points for co-writing and co-producing, but there's a lot of trend hopping and just all around generic songwriting and production in Beyonce's catalog. For example, the writing on "Deja Vu" is poor as the writing conceptually fits a "Crazy In Love Pt.2" as the lyrics don't even imply "Deja Vu".

Production wise, there's no real identity. Her Rich Harrison productions are in the vein of his work w/ Amerie. StarGate, Tricky Stewart, and Ne-Yo were trendy as they had laced hits for Rihanna and others before working w/ Beyonce. Then she recruits Bangaladesh to give her an "A Milli" knock off with "Diva".

She would because Aaliyah would be where B is at minus this modern day pop. Dame would be wining while everyday jigga looking like :scusthov:

Nah tho she wouldn't be where B is at, A was in her own lane that sold well against other female heavy hitters of the 90's, unlike B when she came out in 98 and music as a whole was already starting to decline. B has no competition now, its easy to give her the crown becusse mainstream wise there are no other female singers to compete with versus the 90's where you had a bunch of competition. Why you think jay z and Wayne are comfortable by saying that they are the best alive? Theres no competition mainstream wise now compared to the 90's when there was.

You guys also have to factor in generations, Aaliyah crowd actually grew up with her minus B crowd which is only teenagers and homosexuals. Music has drastically changed, pop is more universal versus soul now. If Pac was still here gangster rap would still have a few years more added to its life. Aaliyah rep a certain time of music, her death was part of the Change that was needed for what's now.

Put it like this, five or seven years ago would you be thinking that Chris brown or Trey songz would be the only mainstream artist making r and b music? Ri ain't r&b and usher only makes Techno now.....are souls are gone brehs :sadcam:

Do I think B can sing? Hell yeah. Does she has soul...no. she is comfortable where she is at on the pop side. The only songs I like of hers are That remix joint with wyclef and me myself and I joint.
But still...One In A Million>>>>>>>>B whole catalog as a group and soloist.
