i'm tallkin' about a producer who actually writes his own lyrics. now dr. dre is the greatest hip hop producer in strictly a producer sense of the word. he would easily get this imo if he wrote the vast majority of his lyrics and not just playin' a part in the structure and organizin' of helpin' in craftin' the song itself. but what i'm talkin abut is a producer who writes his own lyrics, like from an actual writer's standpoint.

some people i know don't think he's that nice because they can't get around his flow and delivery but to me that's what makes his abstract style so unique or did when he was at his peak as a both a producer and rapper.

first 2 rza as bobby digital maybe not classics but imo they were good albums nevertheless with the first actual rza album bein' aight. plus he's had countless classic guest apperaances on other wu members solos that i could make a mixtape of those verses and be good.

as a producer rapper, who's seein' the rza?! :damn:
he even was brave enough to feature alongside kool g rap! :ohlawd:

I'd get hate, but I always throw J-Zone's name in these discussions. Hands down one of the most entertaining lyrically and funky production of the last decade.

But, glad to see that the DITC heads and Beatnuts were brought up in this.

kanye is a puppet and even his ghosted verses are delivered poorly. he legit embarrasses me as a fellow human with his rhymes often.

:what:

he is. i think his production work from 88' to 93' is proof of that. :yeshrug:

Just b/c I've already brought him up, Large Professor's production credits from the same period are just as good, if not better given the wider range of artists he was working with (especially considering his uncredited work on the Eric B + Rakim albums). On top of that he completely washes Dre on the mic.

Other producers other than RZA got on track with G Rap too:

He's one of the greatest yeah, but I can't say he's the greatest of all time. That goes to DJ Premier for me. But hey, production is ultimately a matter of taste.

There were like 10 other GOAT-quality producers working in the 88'-93' period who's catalogs are just as strong

Large Pro during that period:
-Ghost produced Eric B + Rakim record
-Produced large portions of G Rap's classic 2nd record, production credits on Diamond D + Pete Rock & CL Smooth debuts, Keep it Rollin on Midnight Marauders
-Main Source debut is just as well produced as Chronic or Doggystyle
-Put Nas on, produced Halftime + It Ain't Hard To Tell
-Dropped tons of classic remix joints:

Q-Tip is probably my favorite today though because he's so amazingly consistent, and has an almost flawless body of work if you don't count the final Tribe album, which was a result of conflict between the group members. This song nearly moves me to tears everytime I hear it.

His stuff moves my soul like no other nikka's. The Renaissance in particular was one of the best albums ever, truly a classic and more than lived up to the legacy of the first two Tribe albums.
