Thing is, who tells people that their S/O is ugly? It's not polite so no one would realistically ever be in the situation if they're a normal person.

Unless your friends are clowning you or your family is talking about them. Everyone's idealistic when it's a hypothetical.

As a sidenote: Something that's happened to everybody is when you try to show people pictures of your signficant other and can't find one that makes them look as attractive as you see them.
