If two people want and strive for the same goal how can their views cause them to fail?

In modern American society, most people marry for love. Historically love has never been a reason for marriage. And when you no longer "love" a person in this society, you get divorced. Historically marriage has never been about love. Which is why marriage is in the state it's in right now where the divorce rate is extraordinarily high.

Love and friendship is great foundation but it's not enough...but it's definitely a must for a beginning...

I agree with winb83's views on marriage but if a woman spent over a decade with me and didn't cheat I'd see no harm whatsoever in wifing her.

But she could cheat the day after you get married, file for a divorce and take HALF of your money...

Go for it breh!

Comitting yourself for 11 years with someone you don't plan on marrying is a waste. That's a lot of consideration and compromise for it basically not to be going anywhere.

where does "it" go after marriage, that can't be achieved before marriage?

It's not a waste if legal marriage is never your goal.

Legal marriage holds no meaning to me, especially when we are already mutually committed for life (been with my dude a long time). I have to spend 17k for a wedding and certificate now?

The only reason I would get married at this point is cause if I choose to have a baby, I don't want to hear shyt from my mom about doing it out of "wedlock", and even then, that doesn't bother me too much considering the nasty divorce she went through was more dishonorable to the family than anything I could do.

I'm not sure exactly how to explain how I feel about it but I compare it to being a temporary/contractual employee for a company vs being a full-time one. If my husband lost his job I'd have no problem picking up a 2nd or 3rd job to help support us. If my boyfriend lost his job, I'd keep an eye out for new positions and give him the best pep talk I could muster but I wouldn't do much more than that. I have other examples but there is just a difference to me.

Yeah, this is pretty stupid

So you would change your entire line of thinking because you don't have a ring?
