Would you ever "snitch" on your co-workers if you're a supervisor?

Most of us have filled out apps. where they ask "What if" scenarios. But let's say you're a new supervisor. And you know people are doing stuff you know is wrong. Heck, you used to do it when you was a regular worker. Using a cell phone when it's forbidden (some jobs are like that). Putting down hours for overtime when they didn't earn it. Coming in work late. Sleeping on the job. Making up stuff on reports just to satisfy the higher up. Would you try to change the culture because if they get caught they might try to throw you under the bus? Or would you keep it the way it is and have everybody :eat:

I'm going to tell them myself first and give them a chance or two to correct their behavior and if they don't and I don't have the authority to get them out, I'll have to talk with someone who does. Why in the world would I 'look out' for someone who is actively working towards my detriment? Since I'm their supervisor, the cumulative results of their actions reflect on me and if they willingly ignore what I say, that's insubordination on their part. You think they will care if you get fired for bad performance and will chip into some fund to help you find your next job? More than likely they won't bat an eye and will keep doing them screwed up things they are doing until they come across someone who really sets their butt in line.

If I was the supervisor YES. Their work reflects on me and if they are doing things they aren't supposed to it is the supervisor who will be questioned by the higher ups. Why the hell would I want a potentially horrible legacy in the company? It's not snitching if you're a boss and you have a job to do.

Number 1 rule of work? Your underlings aren't your buddy. You get too cool with them and they'll try to use that as a point of leniency... will try coming in late or getting away with extra stuff because they are cool with you. You become too human and reachable to them and they'll be insubordinate/underperform. Don't ever tell your co-workers or anyone that works under you too much either because they may laugh and be cool with you while in your face, but don't be surprised if they go telling the boss behind your back for their own come-up. Work is there for you to get results and handle business, not be 'cool-man'. If everyone is doing their work properly, you don't have to hover over them and you can be more laid back, but being 'nice' and cool to where you start losing respect and performance severely gets affected is a no no.

Let me ask then. If you see your co-workers doing this and you're not in a supervisory position. Do you tell your boss what they're doing?
