I work at a hospital currently making decent salary, just fixed up my resume the other day and was sending out and went for a interview with the city and was offered somewhat the same role except its only a 3 year contract and they are willing to pay me 10k more a year.

Part of me is conflicted :to:, the city job is closer to home pays more and who wouldn't want a city job.

@Asantehene
I wouldn't do it. Because 10k in salary doesn't equate to what you're losing in retirement and medical/dental benefits. For me, it'd have to be like 20-30k more in salary.

Max salary is ten k more, I'm in the upper 5 figures at the moment.

I get three weeks now I'll get 3 weeks there

Long term well it's a city job for one of the biggest cities in the world (Toronto)

How many vacay days you need?
What their max salary to offer?
What is the long term potential?

Y'all also have to consider he is in Canada and not America. That makes a ton of difference.

You don't grow at most city jobs. These gigs are usually about people protecting their spot and telling you what to do and not the why.

Really depends if you're looking for growth or stability. That contract could turn into a permanent gig. But working through Grant funding you're always worrying about if it will be renewed.

Having government experience makes you more valuable to non profits. The benefit of working at a non profit is the stress of the bottom line isn't there.

what does the current job do for you compared to the contract experience wise? that is, if you take the contract will that give you way more experience than what you're getting now or would it be same?

i would take the new gig if it means more growth

I work at a hospital supervising two departments of about 25 staff as well as facilitating and implementing cost saving initiatives. The city job ties more into the second part coming up with and implementing ways to save on a massive project with a budget over 100 mill that's rising which is why it's only a 3 year contract :ehh:

I have to give my answer by tomorrow:to:

city job sounds like could be a big boost for your career when it's all said done, after the experience you gain and contacts you'll make. you've already got your project mgmt experience in healthcare setting under your belt. now go add project mgmt experience in government agencies to your arsenal. now you can say you have proven PM skills across multiple industries. you'll be a beast afterwards. plus, the fact that you bothered to update your resume and even send it out leads me to believe you're not completely satisfied with the current hospital gig. it's just you. no wife or kids to worry about. take a chance breh.

for a contracting job? Nah. Contracting jobs are garbage. No benefits, easier to fire you and you have to keep track of your own taxes.

Always depends on your situation. If I'm a young breh. 20's/30's single, no kids and that could get me some good experience? Hell yea.
