I had the idea for this over 20 years ago.
However, you need land to put the project on and that was something I didn't have...and didn't know how to acquire.
Now that I have the knowledge, money and time...I also have a wife with no vision that "ain't havin that".
So, I'm fukked and will have to live in a normal overpriced house in a developed neighborhood with an outrageous HOA and constant fukkin cac oversight.

fukkin women...
Crazy that this thread came up because my next house will be a residential steel building. I showed my wife some that were bricked on the outside with windows and she loved the idea. You could essentially build a mansion on a $100k budget. I want a gym and a basketball court in that bih. Not to mention they are lower maintenance than traditional houses.

And when you think about it I'm sure you can get a shipping container with an AC unit attached since a lot of stuff that gets shipped is frozen or needs to be kept cold.
They don't :what:

Don't make it with wheels

You can get central a/c hooked up like a conventional house. You can have ducts in the ceiling. Or you can put a couple ductless units on the wall
nice :ehh:

Yeah, if you can get the land.

I'm reading that it's like any other house. You have to make it up to code so an inspector has to come by and check it. This place is in S FL if you have any questions. Shipping Container House | Miami Shipping Container Building | Florida Shipping Container Structure | Home

Your avi :dead: Your wife's behind the wheel :wow:

Our grandparents left me and my brother a nice lil chunk of land after they died. We've been thinking about doing something with it for a while but couldn't think of anything useful. We'd actually thought about turning it into a football field but there's too many trees.

This might be the thing tho. A nice lil club house kinda thing.

You could essentially build a couple on the land and do Airbnb when you and the fam aren't there. Might be a lil niche some people might wanna experience living in a container house for a few days.
Anyone have an estimate of how much an project like this would cost?
The one I posted picture of on the first page was $40k. That one looks like they used high end materials so you could build a nice one for less.

I'd do it if it's cheap and has good security. Would build a balling house on a budget. All I need is the land

NOT IN DETROIT. A FRIEND HAD A HOME OFFICE BUILT ON ONE AND HE HAD TO JUMP THROUGH MAD HOOPS TO GET OT BUILT. THE EXTRA COST MADE IT NOT WORTH IT. HE SHOULD HAVE WENT THE BARNDOMINIUM ROUTE.

If I retired, lived semi off grid and had land, them yeah. But, I prefer the traditional type of home. Tiny homes and alternative typed homes are cool, it is just not for me at this point in my life.
