Most of the problems with 1917 ya'll listing can easily be solved by the $1B. You could literally have your own small country/island/army and be virtually untouchable. Besides, some of ya'll acting like no black people were thriving at that time, even in the states. Plus nobody is saying you gotta make the US your home base.
Moving around would be way easier too b/c it's not like your enemies can pull up your IG page and stalk you. You could practically be invisible, or even have body doubles.

Yo, nobody who was alive back then would even take that deal knowing what's possible and easily available now. 1 billion in 1917 wouldn't get you a whole lot, because there wasn't a whole lot to really have. Land. That's probably it. The only reason to take that deal is if you were setting up for future generations like the Rockefellers did.

You would also be stupid not to make the US your home base, given you would be right in the middle of WWI, slightly before the great depression (which was worse in other countries) and WWII waiting in the distance.
