Dogs can swim, if anything your dog would be trying to save you. They are very loyal and there are countless stories of a dog going into danger to save their owner. It's not just picking an animal over a random, it's picking something that would risk its life to protect you. There's a loyalty factor here.
Now, if the stranger is a child than you got to save the child or the young teen. Regardless. It's the right thing to do despite being wrong. :mjcry:

This is such a dumb question, and I'm not even an animal lover :mjlol:

I don't know about y'all but I'd never put my life on the line for a thank you
Is this a long way of saying you can't swim? :heh:

Saving might mean tossing a floater or handing over the long pole not even getting in the water.

What if it's your kid drowning with you not around and a stranger says the above? :laff:

If I can just throw a life vest or something out there I'd save the stranger. If I actually have to jump in and pull them to safety i'll still take my chances saving the stranger as long as its a kid or an average sized adult. If the stranger is obese I'm saving the pet, too risky otherwise.
This

If you fat I can't help you that's an extra hazard.

I'm jumping in unless the water is freezing and the person is too big.
