he was in the world class wreckin' crew and produced there, then broke new ground with n.w.a. and produced all those ruthless albums durin' his time on the label, then popularized a new sound with the chronic and doggystyle and had a label with death row records, then left there and formed his own label and came back and helped put eminem on the map with a new album himself (chronic 2001)

dr. dre done flipped the script like 3 times in hip hop

what other producer can really say they've had the run he has?

would you say he's the greatest?

Most successful, yes.

But producing is such a broad topic.

There are many claims to the title for different reasons.

Most successful: Dr. Dre.

Best Run: RZA.

Best sample flipper: ?

Most influential: ?

Best Drums: ?

Best mix: Dr. Dre/ DJ Quik

he could easily be in my top 5-10 no question about it. just think about it. he made Snoop, Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game all popular due to his sound. not to mention N.W.A. and a load of other artists.

Strictly hip hop - Dre

Hip Hop & R&B - Timbo

Best run - Neptunes

bruh, dre has had well over 20 some years of a run in hip hop. the neptunes stopped as duo for the most part (with only a few exceptions) like 10 years ago

the neptunes was in high school when dre was puttin' out classics and then when the neptunes finally hit it big dre was still puttin' out classics

Yup Timbos more of a Pop / RNB producer when you look at what he's done in his career.

It's def Dre for me - classics across 4 decades with the commercial and critical acclaim to back up each of these decades. Couple that with the careers and movements hes popularized, he's the goat.

In my opinion, RZA was far more creative. Dude took his sound from disparate influences, and created some innovative shyt no ones been able to recreate since.

Every once in a while, you hear about an artist cooking up some 'old WU shyt', but those comparisons are always wayyyy off base. No one's been able to get close to that early RZA sound, because he had too many esoteric elements in his arsenal.

Dre obviously had his own sound too, and The Chronic is without a doubt one of the greatest hip hop albums ever made.

But let's back up a second.... The Chronic was essentially Mothership Connection 2.0 :ehh:

I mean Dre took multiple samples, and hooks from that album, and even recreated that George Clinton monologue. Im not saying there's anything wrong with sampling, But if you takin a good 70% of your influence from 1 artist, thats either homage, or oppurtunism.

What makes hip hop production so special, to me, is how top tier hip hop artists are able to synthesize disparate elements together and create a cohesive sound. And the fact that hip hop borrows from every genre of music. For instance, an Alchemist record could come from anywhere in the world - Russia, Morocco, Israel, Brazil :wow:

Dre's shyt all came from Parliament-Funkadelic, a couple other 70s funk artists (Ohio Players pioneered the dogwhistle synth), and 80s R&B.

He's still a genius and one of the greatest ever. But no one's fukking with the Abbot:yeshrug:

Dre is great, listened to a lot of Dre earlier, he did some excellent work, DJ Premier is probably my favourite due to the sheer number of quality beats he's done I fukk with from numerous artists but Dre is 1 of the greats to me also, phenomenal, he put shyt together ill and it sounds great too sonically.

i made this thread because even i in the last like year or so started havin' selective memory bout dre's legacy in hip hop

but i heard a nikka playin' some of the chronic at the drive thru at wendy's and it was somethin' bout hearin' it in the car and not on the pc in that very moment that just reminded me that dre really is the best at this shyt. then i started thinkin' bout how he evolved every few years as a producer and how he kept the ball rollin' every few years in hip hop with his music and music for others

you gotta think man, dre produced straight outta compton, eazy duz it, no one can do it better, nikkaz4life, the chronic, and doggystyle all before he was fukkin' 30 years old! that shyt is unbelievable, bruhs. :mindblown:all those albums are monumental albums in hip hop :wow:
