aint no way in hell this is "URBAN"... @Giselle

7 11 is urban. xo is alt pop. Most of her album was urban, which is why it was called an urban album.

mainstream isn't a genre.

Drunk in love, flawless, yonce, partition, mine, no angel, 7/11. All urban songs.

rocket was the only completely rnb song

There were about 2 pop songs

Dangerously in love Album was (contemporary) rnb, rhythm and blues. Some consider some of the songs pop songs. That album was her best album, and it wasn't urban at all. Beyonce is the most urban album that she has ever done.

beyonce's last album was urban? are you serious? her last album was more mainstream and got more attention from white hipsters. that was not an urban album in any way.

dont let drunk in love fool you....one song being urban yet still mainstream....doesn't mean the album as a whole is urban....

go look at those songs on her last album and see that was not urban at all... :camby:

That album was Urban as fuk:stopitslime:.There are and has always been different flavors of "Urban".

now her follow up album will likely be more urban in the way dangerously in love was in 2003 because she probably thinks she lost respect somewhat in the black community and she wants to go back to her roots...this is just speculation but i have a feeling this is what she is gonna do.

You mean more Hip Hop Soul not Urban

Beyonce's songs are not good enough. She hasn't had a hit song since DC I think. Her most recent songs/album was urban. Not everyone likes urban.

Rhianna makes songs like We found love, Diamonds, and Stay and sells more (singles idk about albums) than Beyonce. Rihanna didn't "dress like a thot" during any of those hit songs videos/performances and she didn't even dance.

.

Beyonce and Rihanna don't make the same kind of music. Rihanna started in HipHop-Soul and then went into R&B based, Dance-Pop. Beyonce is mostly HipHop-Soul with her last album being a more diverse range of Urban sounds.

People like watching people who look like them. Especially white people, who are used to it. Whereas black people spent a century watching white people in media for instance, white people aren't used to not being the main attraction.

You can call it the Tiger Woods effect or whatever you want, but when a group sees someone in their group doing well in a field that is traditionally run by another group, their interest peaks. White people are going to give Adele attention that they wouldn't give a black girl who looked the same and made the exact same music. It's also why white people loved Larry Bird, Pistol Pete, etc.

all true

It's a numbers game. Whites are the dominate buyer base in this country, and if you get an artist who appeals to a wide range of them you get an Adele or Taylor Swift type movement. Or Eminem. The only black artist who matched that type of hype were Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. Hell acting wise you can throw Will Smith on the list. Politics wise you could throw Obama on the list. In short it's a small ass list.

Na, there are more than that. Janet Jackson, Prince, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie,Tina Turner, Earth Wind and Fire, Barry White.A few others Im missing but you get the point.

I got no beef with Adele. She makes good music, can sing, and has a great voice.

agreed:ehh:

Poor Beyoncé have to shake it and dress like a thot to do half. Be black in America.

Let's just end this right here. Imagine the response to Adele shaking it in a dress. Imagine Adele in the clothes that Beyonce wears and imagine the response to it. How many magazine covers have showed anything other than Adele's face? Her album covers don't even show her body.

It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with their respective weights/size. More importantly, why aren't you calling Katy Perry a thot? Miley Cyrus? Madonna? They shake it in a dress (and do far worse).

Aint shyt incredible. Its called fans buying the album n supporting the artist. Jill Scott can do those numbers, if nikkas got up off their asses and support.

This.

People always make up excuses about why an artist they like aren't selling. If I wanted Jill Scott to do numbers especially if it's an album I think highly of, I'm copping a couple of them.

No, they aren't Black which is even more telling. You're calling a Black woman a thot and then saying she has to shake it in a dress vs. Adele not doing and selling more. The same is true of these white women who are out here shaking it in a dress and doing far worse. Yet, the thot label wasn't attached to them. Adele is outselling them too without doing that.

This has already been debunked. The most any black artist will do on pred black fan base is about GOLD, never PLATINUM and you can forget MULTI PLAT

Britney did 1.32m in 2000 in an era where EVERYONE bought music. Taylor doing 1.29m in 2014 where NOONE bought music is a wild achievement. That to me is just as impressive, if not more than Britney's shyt.
Adele's jawn doing 11,000,000 though :what: fukking mythical numbers. That new single did a hunnid milli on Vevo in seven days :dead:
The target market tends to be people that have a lot of money to spend on discretionary goods; that market has increased by a lot since Britney came out with an album. They arent as obsessed about getting scouring the Internet for free things like the hip hop target market. They have iTunes, amazon accounts etc and order the things they value and like.
