But... it's NOT. On any level. It's a decent mixtape packed with good punchlines. It'd be more feasible to call it the 2000s version of Chino XL's album. You are probably LITERALLY the only person on Earth that has ever made that comparison. And you're entitled to that opinion. But to think that opinion wasn't gonna be not only challenged, but shot waaaay the fukk down...I'm not sure why exactly you're surprised or offended that people are pointing out the ridiculousness of it.
. besides, you already exposed the fact that you didnt get the gist of the tape and not cognizant of its impact. chino xl? really?People were doing that with Canibus.
Strike one:
Your trying to compare a mixtape to an album that already disqualifies your argument.
Strike two.
By trying to compare releases you also have to compare technical ability, the type of ability Jr Writer possessed while laudable, is quite basic when compared to Nas', consider this an MC the caliber of Nas would have rhymed like the way Jr did when he was a young teen 13-15.
Can you compare Nas at 20 to Jr writer at 20?

No
Nas was way more polished by the time he was first heard on live at the BBQ, he displayed a mastery normally only seen by the elders.
And the verse is a battle orientated one too.
Sure Jr Writer had skills but would you have been impressed enough to check for him without the figure of:

Being present?
I doubt it they are better rappers in his lane doing the whole 16 bars full of punchlines and whatnot.
Strike three.
There is no equivalent to Illmatic or any other album for that matter, each record stands on it's own and doesn't have to be compared to another album to give it legitimacy.
Peace
im not mad about people disagreeing. im mad because most people came in here just to talk chit. half of them havnt even heard the album. on dude just admitted it. do you not realize this?
and heres the thing: if you disagree; then name an album thats better deserving of this description. mentioning chino xl is. besides, you already exposed the fact that you didnt get the gist of the tape and not cognizant of its impact. chino xl? really?
1.) cannibus? cmon man.
2.) so what if its a mixtape? most of it was original songs.
3.) i made it clear twice that i wasnt comparing it to illmatic. im saying that its the illmatic of this century. im not saying theyre equals or even in the same league......and if you dont agree, then name a better example.
THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. The Chino XL thing was just an out-there reference I made, because at least those two have one thing in common, which is an abundance of punchlines. But nothing you said in this thread tells us how you came to the conclusion that Writers Block is this century's equivalent to Illmatic.I'll never forget the first time hearing this mixtape. same here. this tape was something else. my question is when are we going to get past the bickering and start breaking down the mixtape? It's not equal to Illmatic... it's not in Illmatic's league... you're not comparing the two... but you're sayin' it's the 2000s version of Illmatic.THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. Hey... I really think Ready To Die was a great album. And guess what? Lloyd Banks' Money In The Bank was the 2000s version of it. Why? No reason. I'm not sayin' it's in that album's league, or that it's similar in any way, or that it had equal impact or influence, or even that when I hear one it reminds me of the other. Actually, I have nothing that supports this comparison or similarity. I'm just gonna say it's the 2000s version of Ready To Die. Cool?

it's not a legit comparison tho my g..it's not the Illmatic of this century cause it shouldnt even be compared...there's to many differences...not even impact wise..like..It was an ill mixtape..but that's basically where it stops at my g..even on a mixtape circuit...even tho I WOULDNT compare these but Mood Musik 2 is an even better comparison...but it's weird to even compare cause it a nonsensical one..
and what impact did mood muzik 2 had that writers block did'nt have
because dipset movment had a huge impact on hip hop.
the DIPSET movement...get that right..NOT Writer's Block...Mood Musik 2 had MUCH bigger impact in the long run that Writer's Block...and im not even talking impact wise..im talkin atleast Mood Musik 2 had SOME sort of introspection on it..like..the comparison is apples and oranges between all 3 imo...

^mood muzik 2 wasnt str8 to the chest spittin and didnt have that flavor to it. and it was alot of emo type stuff, altho most of it was pretty good. i respect what youre saying tho.
writer's block on the other hand was a joint that made niccas spit along with the tracks until their mouths dried up. or at the very least, like others have said, everybody used to bug out to the lyrics all throughout the whopping 80 minute duration.
