LAND O'LAKES — Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Chartric "Chuck" Terrell Darby was arrested Saturday on a domestic battery charge after shoving his wife, authorities say.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office arrested the 37-year-old 280-pound retired player about 5 p.m. Saturday and held him in jail until 2 p.m. Sunday, when he was released on $500 bail.
According to an incident report, a deputy was called to the Land O'Lakes home about a disturbance. Darby's wife reported she had tried to leave to take care of a few things but that Darby pushed her in the chest during an argument.
A deputy wrote that no marks or redness were apparent on the victim, and Darby denied a physical altercation. The deputy arrested him based on the wife's statement.
Darby played on the Bucs starting lineup when the team won Super Bowl XXXVII in 2002 and moved to the Seattle Seahawks in 2005. He returned to the bay area after he retired in 2009, according to the Buccaneers' website.
