I’m talking about guys like Waka and zaytoven. 21 savage etc…

I’ve been in Dallas most my life and still don’t have a Texas accent.
Yet guys like 21 and flocka moved to Atlanta around the same age I did middle school years and sound like they grew up there

Zaytoven moved there as a damn adult and has no trace of a California accent at all

It’s honestly some weird dikk riding shyt if you ask me :yeshrug:

There’s “science” behind this, like the poster said it’s something about fitting in.

It’s called the Chameleon Effect.

I think you're confusing accent with linguistics. They're picking up the dialect from the source, so when they say it, they say it like the locals do. Waka moved to GA when he was 9, 21 when he was 7. The bulk of their human interaction has been with people from GA. You could move from almost any country in the world before the age of 12, and drop your accent relatively quickly in favor of your new home.

I have the same problem. I already had a slight drawl in my voice because my grandparents some country folk, but when I moved to the South it was over with. I'm not trying to fit in or anything like that, I'm just around folks talking a certain way and starting to inflect like them after a while. :manny:

Same here...I'm from Michigan, but people think I'm from the south because my folks are from Alabama, and I talk with a similar twang.

Facts. I've lived between France and Belgium for like 25 years, and I've always switched to the local "brand" of the french language. When I was in Italy (at 25) and learned the language some native Italians from other regions could quite easily identify where I lived based on the accent/slang I had picked up through everyday interactions.

I think that might be the case for most brehs OP is talking about. A lot of us up North grew up in mostly Southern households with mostly Southern old heads around us. So when we move to the South, it just takes over.
