Rey Mysterio is currently aligned with Lucha Underground but it is said that Mysterio is open to a WWE return and WWE is interested in the same. With WWE’s globalization efforts and brand expansion Mysterio, who departed WWE in early 2015, would be a great addition to either RAW or Smackdown, with the likely destination being Smackdown.

WWE news: Rey Mysterio shows up at ‘Raw’ to talk about contract

Rey Mysterio has been at the center of controversy for the last year in the WWE. His contract expired, but because he was injured for so long, the WWE had a clause in his deal that said they could extend his contract without his approval to make up for his missed dates. On the night of the WWE “SummerSlam” pay-per-view, the Mexican AAA wrestling promotion held a pay-per-view of their own and Mysterio sent in a taped greeting with the hash-tag #FreeRey. According to PWS on Tuesday, Mysterio finally showed up at a WWE event to talk to Vince McMahon.

From the start, the situation seemed strange. When Kurt Angle made it known that he was interested in a return to the WWE, Vince McMahon told him that Triple H deals with all talent deals now. However, when Rey Mysterio went to Triple H and told him that he wanted to leave the WWE when his contract expired, the two allegedly shook hands and agreed to part ways. Then, McMahon extended the deal with Mysterio anyway, handcuffing him to the WWE.

It has been said that Rey Mysterio has refused to cash any of the paychecks that the WWE has sent him since they forced the extension. Mysterio made it clear in his video at the AAA wrestling event that he wished to leave the WWE and said he would see his Mexican fans soon. However, there have also been reports from an unnamed sourcethat indicates that Mysterio is “mentally burned out” and wants to take a break from wrestling and not go to AAA.

Those reports actually make no sense. If Mysterio has no interest in returning to AAA wrestling, where he actually started his career, then why did he send the video to the pay-per-view event? Also, why would Mysterio be burned out from wrestling when he hasn’t even been in a ring in over a year? A lot of anonymous source reports lack credibility and this is one of them.

However, what is known is that Rey Mysterio was at “WWE Monday Night Raw” this week and met with Vince McMahon about something. Whether or not it will lead to his release or his WWE return is something that won’t be known until Mysterio or the WWE comes to a decision.
