It's played up more now than it should be, but the "old star comes back for a short run" thing has been done forever in wrestling. The 70s, 80s, and 90s are full of past their prime old timers with more star power popping in for big matches when times are lean or to make big events feel special. This Taker/HHH thing is actually the way they should handle it, as opposed to Taker or HHH in regular programs with current talent that makes the current guys look weak.

I mean...that's just standard. You can watch some of the old Coliseum tapes on the Network from 1992-1993 and they're already calling Taker the greatest WWF star of all time. One of the tapes was before WM 9 and Bret Hart is labeled as the greatest WWF Champion of all time despite only being the champ for like 4-6 months at that point. JR was hammering HARD in 1997 that Taker is the GOAT. Austin was labeled the greatest champion and superstar of all time in 1998, a month into his first title reign. Why wouldn't you promote your current top guy as the tippy top guy ever?

This Taker/HHH having such a legendary feud bullshyt is bunk as hell though. It was stupid 8 fukking years ago when they tried to promote their WM match that way. They barely interacted in the Attitude Era and were on different shows almost the entirety of the first brand split era.

To add on, they'd also be fukked if international audiences simply stopped showing up to house shows. WrestleMania usually sells out because of all the people from other countries coming, meanwhile Australia is about to host a PPV with 80,000 people and I bet most of the audience will be from Australia.

Yup, they've pretty much turned Wrestlemania into a weeklong Wrestling "convention" so to speak that even other promotions partake in (indirectly of course). They don't have to put any effort into the card for it to sell out nowadays. Nothing really "draws" anymore, they just run everything on a self sustaining business model . Before, the main event was of utmost importance, and you saw it in the posters. Yeah WrestleMania was still WrestleMania but it was all about Hogan vs. Andre, Rock vs. Stone Cold, HBK-Austin-Tyson, etc. Nowadays the posters have everyone they can squeeze in because it's just WWE-Fest, basically.

That's why I've given up on the product, they're just gonna keep the wheels spinning until it doesn't work anymore, and they have no reason not to.
