I had heard Bruce Pritchard say on his podcast that the office had given up on Cena. I didn't know he had been told he was going to cut. Makes you wonder how many other potential superstars got cut simply because they gave up on them too quick.

I also wish they named names on who was going to Big Show telling him no to let Cena beat him. I'm sure we all have our guesses on who'd try to play politics trying to keep down an up and coming threat.

Everything Bruce Prichard says, podcast or here, is a fukking work . I'm not sure if I buy Cena set to get released in November 2002, but its not out of the question. From what I remember they went from giving him a mini push to doing nothing with him in September and October and their roster was stacked at the time.

This is a cool series, I want to hear from Heyman and some others writers about the SD six and their matches.

Cena episode was aight I didn’t have many thoughts on it, it was sorta surprising to hear he was on the chopping block even though I knew from different accounts that he was not looked upon highly at the time. I’m mostly left wondering who might’ve been politicking against him getting a US title run

He should have been given time off regardless. He was obviously a physical and emotional mess, but also character wise they had been spinning their wheels with him since the Invasion ended and he went back to being face feuding with the heel authority figure...again. First with Vince (again) then they turned Flair heel so they could redo Austin vs Vince for the 4th time. The heel turn at WM came about because Austin had been stale and spinning his wheels since he came back from the neck injury, so they went back to what was already stale before.

You know the Austin/Eddie feud would have gone the way of all of Austin's feuds: Him dominating and embarrassing Eddie and likely Benoit for 2-3 months in between making life hell for Flair or Bischoff of whoever was in charge at the time he walked out. He needed a break on every level a talent would need a break for. Every aspect of him on screen and off was tired. In another timeline maybe he went ahead with the Brock match, did an injury angle, and took off until after Summerslam.

It wasn't that bad, maybe it's just my age thats hating, because my cousin is in his early 20s grew up watching him and he doesn't watch any wrestling at all because his favorites dont wrestle anymore most notably cena
