According to The Wrestling Observer, with regards to hiring new talents, WWE is negative on hiring real athletes and are more high on hiring independent wrestling talent. That said, WWE is still down on hiring smaller guys and are still looking for talents with bigger physiques.

:dwillhuh: this is literally the opposite of everything they've done in the last 10 years, everything we've heard for the past 5 years, everything independant wrestlers have said wwe has TOLD them in shoots...etc

I don't buy it. They built an entire power plant training center for the purpose of creating wrestlers out of raw athletes in their mold...the tylerblack/johnmoxley/bryandanielsons of the world are EXCEPTIONS to the rule of Roman Reigns/Big E Langston/Brock Lesnar/Dave Bautista/Rybacks they continuously promote.

Smart move, Jim Ross was big on hiring true athletes from sports backgrounds due to their competitive nature.

While that's all well in good, that needs to be peppered in and not the whole roster.

Hire wrestlers to wrestle

Yeah, but Brock was a guy who wanted to wrestle, Reigns is from a wrestling family, Ryback tried out for Tough Enough so he wanted it, not sure about Langston but I haven't seen anything that says he DIDN'T wanna wrestle... I think it's just more about hiring people who are already wrestling and wanna be there, not people who are athletes in other fields and consider wrestling a job. I don't think WWE will ever be a place where it's nothing but 180-lb. guys getting pushes, but it could probably benefit from focusing on dedicated people who don't wanna do this just to be on TV and get a check.
